Lo Han is used in ProBasics, PureWeigh, IsoProtein Plus and ClearDetox beverages as a source of natural sweetness. Lo Han, also known as mogroside, is the active ingredient of the light-green colored Lo Han Kuo fruit from the Southern Chinese plant Momordica grosvenori (also known as Siraitia grosvenorii) (1,2). This plant is part of the Cucurbitaceae (cucumber, melon, squash and gourd) family. Its sweetness is 250-300 times that of sugar (1, 2). Because Lo Han is not metabolized by the body, it is considered non-caloric as well as low glycemic and has little or no effect on blood sugar or insulin levels (2).
