Frequently Asked Question
Q: Is placing a capsule in water or vinegar an accurate assessment of product solubility and availability?
A: This “at home” test is highly inaccurate. The fundamental problem with testing solubility this way is that the tests are static, unlike the natural gastrointestinal environment. Additionally, water and vinegar are poor substitutes for the gastric acid of the stomach. While vinegar may have the same pH, it does not compare with the ionization strength and potential of real gastric acid (mainly hydrochloric acid).
