Frequently Asked Question
Q: Can probiotics be taken concurrently with antibiotic medications
or supplements?
A: Active probiotic cultures, such as lactobacillus acidophilus,
lactobacillus sporogenes and saccharomyces boulardii,
contain sensitive live organisms that can be harmed if taken concurrently
with antibiotic medication or herbal supplements known to moderate
gut ecology. These herbal supplements include artemisia, barberry,
berberine, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf, quassia, tea
tree oil and thyme. For best results, separate administration of probiotic
supplements and antibiotic medications or these herbal supplements
by at least 2 hours.
